Staff have been working extra hard to get ready for the new school year.  Having ended the 2019-2020 year with nontraditional instruction, there were great hopes for beginning the 2020-2021 year face to face.  When it became apparent that it simply wasn’t going to be safe to start out the new school year with in-person instruction, staff shifted gears and focused on how to make “virtual learning” a reality.  Students will find that there is much more interaction between themselves, their classmates, and their teachers than there was last spring.  Virtual learning is not the same as NTI; it is more structured in design and geared toward presentation of new learning rather than reinforcement and review of concepts already learned.  Virtual learning is the only option available for the first grading period.  After the first six weeks of school, if Governor Beshear has released restrictions on in-person school attendance, parents will be offered the option of sending their children to school or continuing with virtual learning. More information about this option will be available at a later date.

Open House has been scheduled for each grade level and will be done on a drive-through basis.  Elliott County Primary (grades K-2) and Elliott County Intermediate  (grades 3-5) will both be conducting their open houses on Tuesday, September 1.  Elliott County Middle (grades 6-8) will have its open house on Wednesday, September 2, and Elliott County High will have open house on Thursday, September 3.  Each of these is scheduled to run from 1:00 until 5:00.  School staff will be available to greet students and to hand out materials necessary to begin the new school year.

An online registration process is available this year with a direct link to the form on the school district webpage.  You can find the link at https://www.elliott.kyschools.us/ by clicking on “online registration/enrollment.”  Please also complete the survey at the bottom of the page.  This provides valuable information that allows the school district to offer additional assistance to families who need it.

There are several new staff members this year.  Please welcome them to our school community when you get the chance:

Elliott County Primary: Pamela Lewis, Janis Harper, and Brittany Howard

Elliott County Intermediate: Shane Stephens, Destiny Simmons, Jordyn Wyler, and Julie Moudy

Elliott County Middle:  Reece Griffith

Elliott County High: MaKayla Rose, Lisa Nickell, Andrew Simmons, and Rhonda Wright

We are excited to begin the new school year and look forward to the day that we can resume our normal routines.  In the meantime, we are dedicated to ensuring that our students and staff remain as safe as possible as we follow all the guidelines and recommendations set forth by the Kentucky Department of Public Health.
