Community Members Support School Safety Initiatives

Very often people vocalize the “negatives” of small-town life—limited recreational opportunities for youth, distance from specialized health care, scarce career opportunities, costs of commuting to jobs, lack of public transportation, etc.  Focusing on these things may cause one to overlook possibly the most important difference between city life and country life…we have people who care for one another.  Take for example, the solidarity shown by our school staff as they work together to create a more secure environment for our students.  Take that example a step further, and you’ll find our local Farm Bureau agent, Bobby Adams and his wife, Jenine.  When Bobby and Jenine heard that the most pressing issue on the needs list developed by staff for safeguarding student safety at Elliott County High School was a remodeled entryway, they immediately stepped forward and donated $5,000, the entire amount necessary to make the renovation.  As Bobby stated, “If something happened to any of those kids, and we had the means to make a difference, but didn’t step forward and do it, we would not be able to live with ourselves.”

Superintendent Debbie Stephens, the members of the Elliott County Board of Education, and the entire staff at Elliott County High School, would like to thank Bobby and Jenine for their generosity, as we all work to ensure that all of our students are safe, and that they feel protected while they are at school.
