📣 YSC Summer Camp Update 📣 Please note that the YSC Summer Camp dates have changed. Camp will now take place June 8th–12th. If your child has already registered and you would like more information about camp, please contact YSC Coordinator Destiny Howard at 606-738-8379. We are excited for a fun and exciting week with our students! ☀️🎉

The FRYSC-YSC Summer Camp is a fun and engaging program designed to provide students with a safe and enriching environment during the summer months. High school–aged students will attend camp June 1st–5th, while middle school–aged students will attend camp June 8th–12th. Please make sure to register your child for the correct session based on their upcoming grade level. Please use the Google Form Link attached to this post to register your child. Spots for the FRYSC-YSC Summer Camp are limited! Once capacity is reached, a waiting list may be created. If you have any questions or experience any issues completing the registration form, please contact the YSC Coordinator, Mrs. Destiny Howard. The YSC would like to give a huge THANK YOU to this amazing group of seniors (plus a few more not pictured) for helping with our 8th grade transition to high school! These students led our 8th graders through the high school, introduced them to pathway teachers and core content teachers, and shared helpful tips and personal experiences about high school life. We hope this experience helped our incoming freshman class feel more excited and confident as they take this next step in their academic journey. Thank you again to our seniors for being such great role models!

🚀 From Earth to Mars! After a week of problem-solving, designing with criteria and constraints, and thinking like real engineers, my 6th graders brought their Mars colony visions to life. These models represent teamwork, creativity, and a deep dive into what it would really take to live on the Red Planet. I am so proud of how much they’ve grown this year—not just in science knowledge, but in perseverance, collaboration, and hands-on learning. On Thursday, our FRYSC–YSC had the honor of welcoming Miss Kentucky to speak with our high school students. She shared her inspiring story and reminded our students of the power of perseverance, purpose, and using your voice. What made the day even more special was that our FFA students were able to present her with a Raising Hope Challenge Coin! It’s a great day to be a Lion!! 👏🏼😊🦁💫🌸

🚀 6th grade scientists are officially thinking like space engineers! This week we explored what makes life possible on Earth, the real challenges of surviving on Mars, and the problems future colonists would have to solve. Today, teams used a strategy board game to plan the engineering and mental health zones for their Mars colonies—carefully weighing criteria, constraints, risks, and creative solutions before they ever start building. Save the Date! FRYSC - YSC SUMMER CAMP High School Students Incoming 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th Graders June 1st - June 5th Middle School Students Incoming 6th, 7th, 8th Graders June 8th - June 12th ELLIOTT SCHOOLS The FRYSC-Youth Service Center will be providing more information in the coming weeks. These camps are completely free and will include meals. Camp hours will typically run from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Students who wish to attend must be enrolled in the Elliott County School System.
